BPA-Free 5-Gallon Containers Available
From McClellan Mountain Spring Water
In celebration of Earth Day 2011, McClellan
Mountain Spring Water is pleased to announce the availability of Earth-Friendly
5-gallon water containers.
“We now have BPA-free 5 gallon water
containers available for our home and office delivery customers,” said
McClellan Mountain Spring Water General Manager Christina Holden. “This is
another step we are taking to provide our customers with spring water in
containers that tread lightly on the environment,” she added.
Since January 2010, the company has been
manufacturing 100% biodegradable plastic bottles (8oz, 16.9oz, 20oz and 1.0
liter sizes) at its warehouse and bottling facility in Samoa, CA. During that
time, McClellan Mountain Spring Water has produced more than half a million Earth
Friendly plastic bottles, which do not contribute to the current plastic
pollution problem. McClellan Mountain Spring Water is the only northern
California manufacturer of 100% biodegradable plastic bottles.
These bottles start to break down 250 days
after disposal. In five years, they become organic, non-toxic biomass. They
biodegrade in both aerobic – with oxygen (compost) and anaerobic – without
oxygen (landfill) microbial environments.
“Warehouses, homes, offices and store shelves
are not microbial environments and therefore these biodegradable bottles will
maintain their strength and shape characteristics,” Holden said.
The
additive that makes the bottles biodegradable is added to the PET resin during
the “preform” manufacturing process, yet does not change the PET chemistry, and
therefore the bottles are also 100% recyclable and compatible with the existing
recycling stream.
